Elevator Common Sense

I've always assumed it's common sense to end your phone conversation as you're about to enter the elevator. Poor reception, no clear line-of-sight to base station when lift is accelerating (have you ever had a phone conversation whilst running?) etc.

But I guess not everyone thinks the same way.

Two ladies clad in Gucci were talking into their phones as they walked into the elevator. Actually, they might have had other brands on too but there were obvious G's on their handbags, sunnies and belt buckles. I assumed they would end their phone conversations as the lift doors closed but no, they kept right on talking.

The lift picked up speed and they were still trying to hang on to their phone conversations, voices getting louder as the reception grew fainter (like talking any louder's going to help improve reception). After a while, they were shouting continuous hellos into their phones. As they persisted with this ridiculous behaviour, my tolerance reached its limit and I heard my voice in the elevator going 'There's no point saying hello to someone who can't hear you, you might want to try again when the lift stops and there's reception'.

After a long uneasy silence, the ride ended, the doors opened and the Gucci ladies hurriedly walked away from me, without so much as a glance my way.
